Work from Home Parent - Create your Workspace

 

 Are you a work from home parent and struggling to stay focussed on work, then this read is for you.

It is going to be half a year since I am working from home due Covid and believe me working from home with kid is not as easy as I thought. As you have a little boss nagging you every second over petty issues which if you ignore may result into a bizarre situation. So, its only last month that I came across a post suggesting the significance of creating a professional work environment at home to increase the efficiency. And I tried implementing the same. And believe me now situation is a lot better as he know that when I am on my work station I should not be disturbed. When my office is over he pretends to be working in office and enjoys sitting on the chair and reading his books on my workstation

What I used to create my work station

A Chair

I was not having a particular study space so I was using sofa, bed or just normal dining chair for doing my work. However, I developed a back ache due to wrong posture. Due to lock down I couldn't even consult any doctor properly so one day I took leave due to back ache and my boss asked me about how do I do my work, when I told him. He said, you should invest in yourself, get a proper chair with back support else this problem may lead to serious issues. Believe me, it has really worked. A revolving chair with proper back support is a must have when you are working from home.

A Desk

You seriously need a study table which is your space, your corner for creativity, imagination and implementation. Where you can leave your things and nobody will touch. So I shortlisted these two tables as these were made of solid wood and not engineered wood. Have proper dimensions ( 30 inch of height and more than 40 and 20 inches of length and width respectively). It can accommodate all my belongings and focus on my work. 

 

A UPS

So we live in a society where we do have a power backup but every time there is a power cut, even for few minutes till the DG is started my router goes off and net gets disconnected. This has been a real issue during on call meetings. So I bought this UPS. It is worth buying. You may look for other options but this is what I bought and most of colleagues got all of them are satisfied.

A White Board

This might seem to be too much for a work station at home, but these are really helpful in keeping track of work.These help you plan the day and stay stress free. Most of these are easy to stick and peel off. Unlike white boards which are to be fixed and take a lot of space these could be used and just rolled up or kept aside after work  hours so that the kid doesn't messes up with all you have written on it.

Headphones

There are random calls and meetings and so I needed a noise cancelling headphones. I use these Jabra headphones, these are a little expensive but considering their efficiency, it is a value for money.

 

Nevertheless, I was given this by my company so didn't bought them. But I have 100% satisfied from these. But with all the noises that my kids make at home, these are perfect.
