Five must have things for your newborn within the first month

1. Mittens

Mittens are the last things on the shopping list for a new born, however they should be among the first thing that you should buy.

Baby's skin is soft and delicate and while their tiny eyes are still adjusting to the light they tend to use their hands a lot to touch face. At times, they also tend to scratch themselves.

Baby's nails are so sharp and thin that they often end up hurting their delicate skin and can do a lot of damage to their eyes, ears and other places.

Mittens cover the hands and thus prevent the nails from getting in contact to their skin. We brought 4-5 pairs of Mee Mee Mittens.

2. Diapers

As a first time parent, I was really confused while buying diapers for the new born. Though, we were apprehensive about using diapers for our baby during first few weeks but doctor suggested us to use it at night. Later,

use any diapers for the first month or so but these days diapers are a dire necessity especially for working parents.

New borns diapers usually come with sticking tape so that you can easily put it on the baby but in several cases these tapes are too rough and could hurt the skin of baby so make sure you roll up the top of the diaper or atleast cover the plastic tape with another layer of paper tape so that it does not scratches the skin of the baby. We have tried almost all the brands but found Pampers to be the best followed by Himalaya and Mamy Poko pants.

3. Nappy Rashcream

The best thing for your baby is to let them stay without diapers but at times, it's not possible and hence you have to use diapers. Parents should especially use diapers if they are planning to go out of the house for more than15 mins or when going out for doctor visits.

Using a mild baby rash cream is what is suggested. You need to put it with every diaper change.  The best one are those which have thick texture and stays on the baby skin for a while, forming a protective layer. We have tried multiple creams but we vouch by Himalaya baby rash cream and Sudocream.

4. Coconut Oil (cold pressed)

Another dilemma for a new parent is which to use for massaging for your child. Again various options  are available but my suggestion is to really ignore all of them. A lot of people use olive oil, but believe me this should not be used on babies skin. Our paediatrician also suggested us not to use olive oil for baby as it is little acidic, hot in temperament and can add darker tone to baby's skin.

There is nothing better than pure virgin (cold pressed) coconut oil. It has antibiotic properties, and is natural moisturiser for baby's skin. It helps keep the baby's skin soft, maintains glow and preserves ph balance in the skin.

Cold pressed oil will be a little expensive but hey you are doing for your newborn and he deserves a little pampering.

5. Skull Cap

Again like mittens new parents never realise how important to these caps are for our newborns. Babies head are soft and still takes time to form completely post they are born.

Moreover, these caps will protect your baby from sudden variation in temperature and limit their exposure to dust, bacteria, even mosquitoes.

Buy soft breathable cotton skull cap.   If it is extreme cold you can use another lining of cap on the existing one. Don't put woollen cap directly on the baby's head as it may lead to discomfort to your little one.

Hope the above tips help you and make parenting a nice experience for you. If you have any specific concern, do share we will try our best to come up with best possible solution.

Happy Parenting !!
